FAQ’s about Financial Peace University (FPU)
What is FPU? It is a tool that supports churches by equipping them with a biblically-based accountability class that will train their congregation and community to manage their resources. The class is taught by Dave Ramsey via DVD, followed by small group discussion.
Is FPU taught by video? Is there any interaction? Yes, Dave Ramsey teaches via DVD for approximately one hour. Then you will gather in groups of ten or less for 45 minutes of interaction, led by a facilitator.
What do I get for the fee I pay? The $96 class membership fee includes: 13-week workbook; audio CD library (all 13 lessons); budgeting forms; two CD-ROMs with financial calculators and other tools; Dave’s best-selling book; FPU envelope system (a cash and budgeting tool); tip and debit card holders.
Is the fee good for just me or my whole family unit? Does paying make me a lifetime FPU member? It is good for you and any teenager or adult living at home. You also have a lifetime membership, which allows you to attend future FPU classes at no additional charge with upgrades on curriculum available.
When does the first class start? August 21. The course is 13 weeks long and we will take off September 4, October 30 and November 20, so the class is scheduled to end December 4.
What is the timeframe for the class? The classes will meet Sunday evenings from 5pm-6:45pm in the Fellowship Center (small steeple entrance).
What if I have read’s Dave’s book or I am a frequent listener to his show, will this course be different and worth the investment? Financial Peace is a 13-week course. Dave's book(s) can really only scratch the surface of developing a real game plan for your money. FPU goes into much more detail than do Dave’s books. The 13 week time frame allows the behavior change process to really set in. Also, the discussion and accountability enhance the process.
How do I register and pay for the class? Click on thislink. You may register for class and pay online with a credit or debit card, or electronic check. You may also pay by check (made out to FBC Lewisville) or cash with an attached registration form (available in the office and at the Information Center on Sundays).
Is there a registration deadline? You can register right up until the first class, on August 21. However, those registering after 1:30pm CST on August 10, 2011, may not have their membership kits in time for the first session. We will have handouts available for week one and should have all membership kits in time for week two.
Is there childcare available during the Sunday night FPU meetings? Yes.
August 21 & 28, there will be childcare for birth through grade 6. September 4 there will be no FPU classes in observance of Labor Day. The options listed below will begin on September 11. ALL childcare reservations and registrations need to be coordinated through Susan McClelland.
- Children birth through K will be cared for in our childcare rooms by caring adults.
- Children ages grade 1 through grade 6 will be able to choose from several options from 5-5:30. Then from 5:30-6:45, children ages PreK (4 years old by 9/1/11) through grade 6 will have the opportunity to be a part of our children's worship ministries WIRED & FUSE.
- Students (grades 7-12) also have options, our Priority and Voice of Praise choirs from 5:30 to 6:45.
What if I want to be involved but don’t think I can afford the class fee? FPU and FBC both agree, there is value in the sacrifice that comes with paying for the class. You have buy-in. In FPU surveys, they ask, "How much debt did you pay off?" and "How much did you save?" during the 13 weeks of Financial Peace. From these surveys, the average family finishing the class pays off $5300 in debt and puts $2700 into an emergency fund during the 13-week class! So, the investment of $96 is a good one. If the fee is still a problem, contact Brian. FBC may be able to help subsidize cost or work with you on a payment plan.
