REVEAL and First Baptist Church

REVEAL’s Objective:

To develop in-depth understanding of how people progress in their spiritual journey and how the church can more effectively help them grow in their relationship with Christ.

How This Research Will Help Our Church:

The findings from this research will help us understand the spiritual health of our congregation as a whole, as well as how our church is helping them grow spiritually. We will gain insight on the practices and activities that are most catalytic for spiritual growth in our congregation. We will also learn our church’s best opportunities for greater impact through the post-survey statistical analysis that includes comparison to a wide range of other surveyed churches.

General Project Timeline:

January 14-28, 2008 – Survey available online to FBC.

Spring 2008 -- REVEAL shares findings from the research with our church.

Process for Conducting the Survey:

1. Following our launch date, the survey link will remain open for two weeks
2. We will launch the survey to our congregation with an email that includes the survey link. We will let people know the survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and needs to be completed in one sitting.
3. When our survey timeframe concludes, our congregation’s responses are collected anonymously by an independent research organization. After tabulating our results and compiling our church’s report, REVEAL will share their findings with FBC.

What we want to be clear about:

• We’re launching a special survey asking for input on your spiritual life and our church’s role in it.
• Our goal is to better understand what the church can do to support your spiritual growth.
• We’d like to hear from everyone who calls our church their church home. The more input we have, the better our efforts to support your spiritual growth will be.
• The survey is comprehensive and thought-provoking; we’re asking you to set aside 20 minutes to take it. We think you will find it time well spent.
• This survey is completely anonymous. An expert third-party research organization will aggregate our input with responses from thousands of other people, so your survey will not be viewed individually.
• You will not be solicited for any products or services as a result of taking this survey
• Your email address will not be distributed to another party.

Other FAQs

What about those without internet access and/or people not comfortable with the internet?

For those without computer access/skills we will work to make computers available with helpers at the church during certain times over the two week survey period.

Are there age parameters?

The survey is designed for input from adults 18 and over. We plan to develop a survey targeted for youth and children in the future.

What will FBC do with the findings?

The staff and leadership council will review and look for insights that will cause us to take action. Without the findings, we don’t exactly know what will come from it – but it will give us a measurement of where people feel they are spiritually and what ministries we participate in as a church that are most helpful. More than likely, the data will cause us to modify or change some of our behaviors.  Not knowing how soon we will receive the findings after taking the survey, we do not know exactly when we will let our church know about the findings.  However, we will work to find various opportunities and means to inform the church body about the results.
